Our Story
Mockingbird Hill Inspired Design is the culmination of a life-long passion in design by Karen Christensen. She delights in translating her clients' wishes into inspired, unique and stylish solutions that result in top-of-the-line, beautiful, harmonious and comfortable interiors.
Mockingbird Hill was founded in 2000. The name "Mockingbird Hill" is inspired by Karen's Seminole, FL location situated on a hill surrounded by an acre of live oak trees. It is both a place and a state of mind: happy, melodic and productive, like the resident songbirds for which it is named.
Karen would love to be inspired by you! You're one call away from getting started on a fun and satisfying experience achieving the results you desire.
A Natural Passion for Design
Art and design talent spans generations in Karen's family. Both her grandfathers were artists and she enjoyed creating projects during her formative years with her Danish grandmother who was a
talented fiber artist. Growing up, she designed and sewed all her own clothes and painted and decorated the family homes alongside her artist father. As an adult, Karen encouraged her children to also experience the joy of the creative process and to develop their innate artistic talents. Her daughter is a sculpture artist and her son is an accomplished musician.
Karen earned a BA with a double major in zoology and psychology and an MBA with a double concentration in marketing and finance. She taught at the University of South Florida. From there she took a position with a Fortune 100 company where she ultimately became a national director. These experiences helped her hone her skills of understanding clients' needs and developing tailored approaches to achieve their satisfaction.
Throughout her academic and corporate careers, Karen continued her passion to study design as the discipline that held her greatest interest. She brings to the field an interdisciplinary background that helps her to understand and relate to a diverse group of people and to appreciate their individual needs for an interior environment that reflects their own backgrounds, preferences and visions.
